Introduction to the Advantages of PU Artificial Leather

The development of synthetic leather has basically gone through three stages. In the 1930s, PVC synthetic leather made from PVC polymer materials appeared, achieving practical industrial applications as a substitute for natural leather. This is the first generation of artificial leather. In the manufacturing process of PVC leather, plastic particles are first thermally melted and mixed into a paste, then evenly coated on a T/C knitted fabric base according to the specified thickness. It then enters the foaming furnace for foaming, giving it the softness needed to adapt to the production of various products with different requirements. Surface treatment (dyeing, embossing, polishing, matting, and brushing) is carried out simultaneously as it comes out of the furnace, mainly according to the specific product requirements.

The development of artificial leather has basically gone through three stages. In the 1930s, PVC artificial leather made from PVC polymer materials was introduced, achieving practical industrial applications as a substitute for natural leather. This is the first generation of artificial leather.
The manufacturing process of PVC leather mainly involves first melting plastic granules into a paste, which is then evenly coated on a T/C knitted fabric base according to a specified thickness. It then enters a foaming oven for foaming, giving it the softness required to produce various different products with different requirements. Surface treatment (dyeing, embossing, polishing, matting, and sanding) is carried out simultaneously according to specific product requirements.
The manufacturing process of PU leather is more complex than that of PVC leather. Since the base fabric of PU is a strong canvas material, it can be coated on top of the base fabric or the base fabric can be included in the middle, making the base fabric invisible from the outside. The physical properties of PU leather are better than those of PVC leather; it is more resistant to bending, has better softness, greater tensile strength, and is breathable, which are advantages that PVC does not possess.
The differences between PU artificial leather and PVC artificial leather are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1. PU feels softer than PVC, has better quality and toughness, and is generally used for fabrics that can withstand considerable tensile force.
2. The Price of PU is more expensive than that of PVC.
3. PVC can be torn apart with force, while PU cannot.
4. The base fabric of PVC is generally thinner and more sparse; PVC commonly uses water needle fabric and sweat shirt fabric, while the base fabric of PU is of higher quality. The base of PVC leather is generally woven fabric and knitted fabric, while the base of PU leather is non-woven fabric.
5. If burned, PU has a milder smell, while PVC turns black and has a foul odor.
6. The specific gravity of PVC is greater than that of PU.
7. PVC has deeper patterns, and the foaming layer in the middle is more obvious.

Advantages of artificial leather

Artificial leather, also known as synthetic leather or leatherette, is a general term for synthetic materials such as PVC and PU. It is made by processing various formulations of PVC and PU through foaming or coating on a textile or non-woven fabric base, and can be manufactured according to different requirements for strength, abrasion resistance, cold resistance, color, gloss, patterns, and designs.

Comparison of PVC Artificial Leather and PU Artificial Leather Production Processes

Artificial leather, a plastic product similar to leather. It is made by rolling plastic film onto cotton fabric or evenly coating synthetic resin containing plasticizers onto cotton fabric, followed by processing. It has a soft texture and comes in various colors and patterns.

Comparison of the characteristics of PVC artificial leather and PU artificial leather

The first generation of synthetic leather products is PVC (PVC), which is inexpensive and has a certain texture similar to natural leather, but it has disadvantages such as poor weather resistance, a stiff feel, and poor softness. It is mainly used in low-end bags, shoes, and sports balls. The second generation of products is PU (polyurethane), which originated after the large-scale application of polyurethane materials in the 1940s. It has advantages such as a soft luster, a soft feel, a strong leather-like sensation, and good cold resistance, and is widely used in clothing, furniture, and mid-to-high-end footwear.

Distinguish between synthetic leather and genuine leather products

Artificial leather products have already covered all aspects of life, including seats, sofas, leather shoes, bags... Artificial leather products can be said to be everywhere. However, many people are still unclear about the characteristics of artificial leather and the differences from genuine leather. Although the current trend is for artificial leather to further develop and genuine leather products to lose market share, it doesn't hurt to understand a bit more.
